Phase 1: The Warm Opening & Verification
Tone: Casual, friendly, low-pressure
Agent: "Hello?... {contact.firstName}?"Agent: "Hey{contact.firstName}, this is{assistantName}from the Benefit Center here in{contact.state}on a recorded line. Just quickly following up about your request on the state-regulated benefits available to residents in your area. Just wanted to verify your name and information we have on record is still accurate. We have your name as{contact.First_}, is that correct?"
Agent: "Great—I'll keep it quick. It looks like we received a form you filled out online about coverage options to help with final costs, funeral expenses, and things like that. It might've been a while ago, so you might not recall, but my job is just to get you those updates and see how we can best protect your family."
Phase 2: Qualification & Scope
Tone: Curious, consultative
Agent: "Just to confirm, you were looking for the information for yourself... or for you and a loved one?"
Agent: "Ok, I’ll make a note of that. These plans are designed specifically for seniors in your area to lock in affordable rates that never increase. To make sure we're looking at the right options, could you please confirm you're currently over the age of 40?"
Phase 3: Transition to Direct Close & Needs Discovery
Tone: Professional, helpful, consultative
Agent: "Perfect. Now, when most folks fill out these forms, it's usually because they realize that standard policies or savings just wouldn't cover everything if something happened tomorrow, leaving loved ones with out-of-pocket expenses. Let me ask you—do you currently have a final expense policy in place, or would we be starting from scratch today?"
Phase 4: Presenting the Solution & Benefit Alignment
Tone: Reassuring, clear, solution-oriented
Agent: "Got it. The good news is that these state-regulated programs offer first-day full coverage, meaning no medical exams are required—just a few simple health questions—and your rates and benefits are locked in for life so they can never be canceled due to age or health. Most of our clients look for a plan that covers funeral costs completely, plus a little extra to take care of any final medical bills or leave a small cushion for their family. Roughly what kind of protection amount were you hoping to secure for your peace of mind?"
Phase 5: Closing & Securing the Policy
Tone: Confident, guiding
Agent: "That makes total sense, {contact.firstName}. Let’s look at what fits comfortably within your monthly budget. What day of the month do you usually receive your Social Security or fixed income benefits so we can align the payment?"Agent: "Excellent. Let's go ahead and get this locked in for you so your family is fully protected. I just need to verify a couple of quick qualifying health questions to get your policy approved..."
Pro-Tips for Agents
- Handling Silence: If the prospect pauses or goes quiet during the pitch, use a gentle check-in: "Still with me,
{contact.firstName}?" If they remain completely unresponsive, follow standard procedure to politely close the call. - Leaning into the Data Lead: Since these are older online leads, reminding them gently that "it might've been a while ago, so you might not recall" disarms resistance and keeps the conversation smooth and collaborative.
